In accordance with the "Action Plan for 2020-2022 to ensure the efficient use of water resources" approved by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, control measures are taken in the regions to prevent water loss and waste. As a result of the investigation of special groups established by “Azersu” OJSC to detect and eliminate cases of illegal use of drinking water, illegal use of drinking water in some production and service facilities, irrigation of gardens and vineyards was prevented in Tovuz region.

During the investigation, it was found out that the Zayamchay-Tovuz transmission main with a diameter of 500 mm, which supplies the city of Tovuz with drinking water, was illegally connected and the vineyards were irrigated from the water taken from here. While inspecting the water supply system of another garden area, it was found that 3 water meters were installed, but it turned out that these meters were of no importance. In Ibrahimhajili village, an illegal connection was made from a high-pressure transmission main to irrigate a new orchard. A lake was created due to the runoff in the part of the Zayamchay-Tovuz main pipeline passing through the territory of Dondar Gushchu village and the water was used for irrigation by pumps.

Necessary measures have been taken on each revealed fact, unauthorized lines and connections have been eliminated and damage caused by illegal use has been calculated in accordance with the requirements of the Rules of Water Use. We once again urge citizens and entrepreneurs to refrain from such actions and state that measures will be taken to prevent such violations, the lines drawn arbitrarily will be abolished and law enforcement agencies will be contacted about the perpetrators of such violations.

It should be noted that in 2021, 14,564 cases of illegal use of drinking water were revealed and 4,147,000 cubic meters of consumption was restored. Last year, about 200 facts of illegal water use were submitted to law enforcement agencies for investigation.
