Drinking water supply system in Ganja under reconstruction

   “Azersu” OJSC continues to carry out Action plans in Ganja in order to improve drinking water and sewerage service. The first phase on reconstruction of drinking water supply and sanitation systems under “Open Municipal Infrastructure Program II” funded by the Republic of Azerbaijan and KfW (Germany) has been completed.

   At the first phase the water sources have been rehabilitated and transmission mains have been laid. Taking account the relief and perspective development supplying Ganja city with drinking water from various sources is considered advisable. With this purpose 3 water sources (Goygol, Gizilgaya drainage systems, and Shamkirchay water reservoir) have been chosen.

   Construction and installation work on Goygol water source is nearly completion in the frame of the first phase. At the same time at this phase the drainage system with capacity of 200l/s has been rehabilitated, new water reservoir with capacity of 4000 cubic meters has been constructed and a transmission main of 24,5km from the source till the reservoir has been laid. 20 percent of 63 thousand people in Ganja city will be supplied with drinking water on “24 hours a day” basis from this source.

   In parallel with this, reconstruction works have been carried out in Gizilgaya water source. A water reservoir with productivity of 2000 cubic meters and water lines of 9,5 km have been constructed. Construction of 2 water reservoirs with total capacity of 10 thousand cubic meters is nearly completion.

  Approximately 60 percent of drinking water needs in Ganja city will be meet from Shamkirchay reservoir. The reservoir water will be transmitted to Water Treatment Plant with capacity of 17 thousand cubic meters that to be constructed in Gizilgaya by transmission main of 27,5km. Presently the construction of transmission main is continued.

  At the same time drinking water and sewerage networks in Ganja under construction. In accordance with the project a section of 30km of distributional water lines of 576km and section of 32km of sewerage network of 582km have been laid. In the future the wastewater of Ganja city will be discharged Wastewater Treatment Plant to be built.

   Installation of pre-paid smart-card water meters started firstly in multi-storey building. So far 7 thousand customers in 119 buildings have been supplied with smart-card water meters.

  Reconstruction of water supply and sewerage system of Ganja project is designed to supply 450 thousand people with drinkingw ater and sewerage systems taking account the perspective development as of 2035.
