President Ilham Aliyev: "Efficient usage from water sources assumes startegic importance"

   On September 28 President Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva attended the opening of the Takhtakorpu water reservoir, the Takhtakorpu hydro power plant and the Takhtakorpu-Jeyranbatan water canal built in Shabran district

   In accordance with the instructions of the President, the water reservoir and the power plant have been built with funding from the State Oil Fund of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Takhtakorpu water reservoir covers an area of 8.71 square kilometers and the total displacement of the facility is 270 million cubic meters. The effective volume of water in the lake is 238.4 million cubic meters.

  President Ilham Aliyev launched the power plant, thus starting the water supply into the Takhtakorpu-Jeyranbatan canal. President Ilham Aliyev was informed about the operation of the station. The plant has 3 hydro aggregates with a total power of 25MW.  It was noted that this energy facility would play an important part in the energy supply of the northern region. It was indicated that the water collected in the Takhtakorpu water reservoir, in addition to producing electricity, would also be used as drinking water and for industrial and irrigation purposes.

   The Head of the State then met members of local public, staff of Amelioration and Water Management Company, as well as experts and constructors. He noted that r the reconstruction of the Samur-Absheron irrigation system and the implementation of other similar projects demonstrates the steadily growing economic power and intellectual potential of the Azerbaijani people.
