“Azersu” OJSC continues Action plan on improvement of the environmental situation and construction of new sewage infrastructures in Baku and Absheron Peninsula. In accordance with the Action plan of the Stock Company new projects are carried out in order to develop the management of stormwater and waste water, as well as to prevent the direct discharge of wastewater into the Caspian Sea.

“Construction project of Khirdalan-Khojasan tunnel sewage collector” aiming at removing transportation of wastewater collected in Khirdalan and Masazir from the center of Baku has been launched. Note that presently the wastewater of these areas is discharged to Hovsan Aeration Station passing through Baku. Wastewater discharge is carried out in two phases by pumps wasting large amounts of electric power.

The new project is designed to transport wastewater to Lokbatan by gravity. Taking into account the landscape features tunnel collector is planned to be constructed under Khojasan hills. According to the project the tunnel collector of 14750m will be drilled in depth of 32-49m. The diameter of 7400m section of the tunnel will be 2200mm; the rest will be 2800mm.

Presently drilling work is continued and the construction of the tunnel collector is planned to be completed in 2015. Once Khirdalan-Khojasan tunnel sewage collector is put into operation wastewater collected in Khirdalan city and surrounding areas, as well as some parts of Garadag, Binegedi, Yasamal and Sabail districts will be discharged to waste water treatment plant that is constructed near Lokbatan settlement. After treatment the wastewater will be discharged into the Caspian Sea.
