Water supply and sanitation systems in Gakh under reconstruction

    “Azersu” OJSC continues Action Plan on reconstruction of water supply and sanitation systems in the regions following “State Program on Socioeconomic Development in the Regions of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2009-2013”. Water supply and sanitation systems in Gakh are reconstructed in the frame of the project funded by state budget.

    Work under “Reconstruction project of water supply and sewerage system of Bilasuvar” was launched in November 2011. The project is estimated for improvement of water supply and sewerage systems services of 20000 consumers in Gakh city, Gakhbash and Gakhingloy villages considering population growth as of 2035.

 

   According to the project springs located near Ilisu village in Gakh are used as water source. DN 250mm transmission main of 6,7 km was laid and a water intake facility was constructed in order to collect and deliver spring water  to the city. Construction work of 6 Nos reservoirs with the capacity of 1000 m3 each is nearing completion.

   55km section of distributional lines of 119km was laid and 2000 house connections are carried out. Installation of prepaid smart-card water meters is continued and so far 237 of 5900 consumers are supplied with water meters.

   Following the project sanitation system is constructed in Gakh city. With this purpose construction of sewer collector of 17 km was completed and 34km section of sanitation network of 89,5km was laid. Collected wastewater of  Gakh, Gakhbash, and Gakhingloy will be discharged to the Wastewater Treatment Plant with the capacity of 8000m3/day that will be constructed near the city.

   First water system in Gakh was constructed between 1950 and 1960 years. Population in Gakh was using river and artesian water till the implementation of the new project. The existing water network is unfit for operation and about half of the population is supplied with drinking water in a centralized manner.
