“Azersu” OJSC started large-scale works on reconstruction of drinking water supply in order to supply consumers with drinking water on “24 hours a day” basis, prevent water losses, and precise accounting. Reconstruction projects of water supply and sewerage systems in multi-family residential buildings launched by “Azersu” taking into account excellent results of pilot projects carried out in Surakhani and Binagadi districts of Baku. Under these projects water supply systems of 787 multistorey buildings in Sumgayit and Khirdalan, as well as in some districts of Baku will be reconstructed. Presently reconstruction was completed fully in 100 buildings. Work is underway in another 400 buildings. The project covers about 60,000 apartments.

Under the project iron pipes of transmission mains will be replaced with polyethylene pipes. Distributional lines laid through the basements of the buildings were cancelled and these lines were laid through the ladder cages. Every consumer is supplied with pre-paid smart-card water meters that are installed in the ladder cages. Installation of water meters in ladder cages improved control works and technical service. At the same time fire hydrants will be installed in front of the buildings.

Note that connection of private houses to existing water supply and sanitation networks is fulfilled by appropriate services of “Azersu”OJSC and the consumers are not charged any fee. But connection of non-household consumers to existing networks is fulfilled by appropriate services of “Azersu”OJSC at the expense of the consumer.

Preliminary analysis on the projects completed reports positive results. Thus as a result of reconstruction works water leakage in basements has been prevented, consumption decreased by 2 times and water losses were eliminated. As a consequence, the level of power charge grew up to 100% and the process of reduction of accounts receivable starts.
