Staff of ‘Azersu” OJSC attended VII World Water Forum Kick-off meeting

   On May 14-15 2013 VII World Water Forum Kick-off meeting was held in Daegu-Gyeongbuk, Republic of Korea. A delegation of Azerbaijan including head of Environment department of the Cabinet of Ministers Ilyas Alizadeh, deputy chairman of “Azersu” OJSC Ilgar Tagiyev and head of Science, Technology and Strategic Researches Division Adishirin Alakberov visited Republic of Korea.

   The representatives from major international organizations involved in the cause for water, such as UNESCO, UN Habitat, OECD, Green Cross international and WWF-US participated at the meeting. At the meeting preparation issues on VII World Water Forum were discussed. The main issues of the forum include integrated water resources management, climate change and water security, drinking water supply and sanitation services, water and food security, green planet, education on water sector and other problems. It was considered appropriate to hold regional workshops in different countries following these issues.

   The Azerbaijani delegation was active in the discussions and brought to attention some necessary issues such as transboundary water problems, integrated water resources management, water pollution.

   During the visit Azerbaijani delegation met with president of World Water Council Benedito Braga and head of VII World Water Forum Lee Soontak.
