There are more than 60 flood-prone rivers in the country. Floods occur mainly in spring and summer. According to the statistics of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, a sharp increase in the number of extreme hydro meteorological events (floods, wind, hail, rains, etc.) have been observed over the past 5 years. Thus, there were 5 streams and floods in 2019, 35 in 2020, 41 in 2021, 50 in 2022, and 147 in 2023. This year, only within the months of April-June, floods and overflows were observed 59 times.

As every year, important measures are being taken by the Azerbaijan State Water Reserves Agency to minimize the damage caused by streams and floods that may occur in the rivers.

For your information, we inform you that this year, due to intense rains, the floodwaters, which have increased, have covered streets, courtyards, public catering facilities with stones, gravel and mud, made the streets impassable, and damaged farms. In a short period of time, the local operational departments of the Agency involved cleaning canals, draining water from backyards, smoothing roads, and removing complications.
