The State Water Reserves Agency of Azerbaijan has started the implementation of a new project to improve the drinking water supply of the population in the settlements near Baku. The project implemented at the expense of state investment envisages the improvement of drinking water supply in the northeastern part of the Absheron peninsula, especially the coastal areas of Mashtaga, Nardaran and Bilgah settlements, as well as newly built residential areas.

According to the project, the drinking water supply of the area will be carried out from the Mashtagha reservoir fed from the Jeyranbatan Water Purification Facilities. For this purpose, the pumping station of the reservoir will be rebuilt. The water taken from the reservoir will be pumped to the newly built reservoir with a capacity of 10,000 cubic meters in Nardaran settlement. In order to connect Mashtagha and Nardaran reservoir, a 6 km long transmission main with 820 mm diameter steel pipes is being built.

It should be noted that there was no centralized water supply network in the area covered by the project. In a part of the territory, water lines were built individually by the population, and those lines are unfit for operation because they do not meet construction standards. In areas without a network, residents get drinking water by car. As a result of the implementation of the new project, the supply of drinking water to recreational and tourist facilities along the beach area will be improved. Construction and installation work is expected to be completed by the end of this year. The implementation of the project will allow to improve the supply of drinking water for about 70,000 residents in Bilgah, Nardaran, Mashtagha settlements, as well as in newly built residential areas.
