Illegal drinking water lines in facilities and residential houses were prevented in Sumgait city

In accordance with the Action Plan for ensuring efficient use of water resources approved by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, the State Water Resources Agency of Azerbaijan has strengthened complex measures to detect illegal drinking water supply, minimize water losses and prevent wastage. For this purpose, cases of illegal water supply were detected as a result of control measures conducted in Sumgayit city. People engaged in the construction of individual residential houses in the area called Sulh Street, block 76, supplied the apartments with drinking water by making illegal connections to the nearby water network without obtaining technical conditions or signing a contract. In addition, several courtyard houses located in the above mentioned address were also found to be using water without accounting. The apartment owners robbed the water by getting connection to the transmission main passing nearby. Illegally laid water lines were canceled by the emergency brigade invited to the area.

During the control measures, cases of illegal use of water in private residences as well as in commercial facilities were identified. Thus, the fact of illegal water line was discovered in the cafe named "Cafe shop" located on Zulfu Hajiyev street, 6th microdistrict of the city. The owner of the facility arbitrarily got connection to the water line of the nearby residential building without obtaining technical conditions or signing a contract. Illegal lines were cut and canceled.

It has been brought to the attention of apartment and facility owners that the illegal and off-meter use of drinking water leads to the violation of hydraulic regimes in the networks, serious water losses and deterioration of water supply to other subscribers living in those areas.

It should be noted that within the months of January-June 2023, 8,899 facts were discovered by "Azersu" Open Joint Stock Company and 202 of them in Sumgait city, about 100 facts were submitted to law enforcement agencies for investigation.
