Cases of illegal drinking water supply were detected in private houses and a number of facilities in Sabunchu district

In accordance with the Action Plan for ensuring efficient use of water resources approved by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, the State Water Resources Agency of Azerbaijan continues comprehensive measures to detect illegal drinking water supply, minimize water losses and prevent wastage. As a result of control measures carried out in Sabunchu district, cases of illegal water lines in a number of commercial facilities and private residences were detected and prevented.

Illegal drinking water supply was discovered in about 40 courtyard houses built by people engaged in the construction of private houses in Mashtaga settlement, Sabunchu district. So, the person who built these houses independently got connection from the main water line and built a distribution water line with a diameter of 50 mm. Although the water supply to the houses was stopped due to the illegal use of water, the owners of the houses continued the illegal to use water illegally by connecting the cut water line.

All detected illegal connections have been removed. It has been brought to the attention of facility and apartment owners that illegal and off-meter use of drinking water causes disruption of hydraulic regimes in networks, serious water losses, and deterioration of water supply to other subscribers living in those areas. In order to prevent such illegal situations, measures will be continued regularly, arbitrarily laid and off-meter lines will be canceled, and law enforcement agencies will be contacted to take strict control measures against individuals and legal entities who commit these acts.

It should be noted that in January-May 2023, 7,316 facts were discovered, and 2,053 in Sabunchu district, and more than 50 facts were submitted to law enforcement agencies for investigation.
