The state standard AZS 929:2023 "Drinking water. Hygienic requirements and quality control" came into force. The new standard was developed by the working group established by the order of the Ministry of Health in connection with the implementation of Target Indicators officially adopted by the Republic of Azerbaijan under the "Water and Health Protocol" of the UN Convention on "Protection and Use of Trans boundary Water Streams and International Lakes".

The new standard, which received the positive opinion of relevant state institutions, scientific institutions, and civil society institutions, was approved by the decision of the Standardization Institute of the Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control State Service (AZSTAND) under the Ministry of Economy.

According to the new standard, microbiological (8 indicators), organoleptic, physical-chemical (100 indicators) and radiological (2 indicators) indicators of drinking water will be studied. It should be noted that until now, drinking water quality control in our country was carried out on the basis of GOST 2874-82 standards adopted during the USSR.
