A conference held on "The development of Azerbaijan's water sector is connected with the name of the national leader Heydar Aliyev"

Within the framework of the jubilee events in connection with the declaration of 2023 as the "Year of Heydar Aliyev" in our country by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev’s order dated September 29, 2022, a scientific-practical conference on "The development of the water sector of Azerbaijan is connected with the name of national leader Heydar Aliyev" was held organized by the State Water Resources Agency of Azerbaijan.

A photo exhibition about the national leader Heydar Aliyev’s activities in the water sector was viewed and a film was shown before the conference.

Speaking at the conference, Asad Shirinov, adviser to the chairman of the Melioration and Water Management Open Joint-Stock Company, said that the great statesman Heydar Aliyev identified the development of the water management sector as one of the priority areas. Fundamental work in the field of effective management of water resources, melioration and irrigation in our republic were carried with the national leader Heydar Aliyev’s initiative and under his leadership. Aghstafachay, Sarsang, Yukhari Khanbulanchay, Arpachay, Ashaghi Gondalanchay reservoirs, Mil-Mugan, Lankaranchay hydroelectric junctions were built and put into operation during the Great Leader’s leadership. These projects have contributed to the improvement of irrigation of agriculture and provision of drinking water to the population.

National leader Heydar Aliyev was also the author of the initiative regarding the construction of the Oghuz-Gabala-Baku water pipeline, which led to the improvement of drinking water supply in Baku. Great Leader gave instructions and recommendations on the construction of the Oguz-Gabala-Baku water pipeline, and the implementation of this project under Mr. President Ilham Aliyev’s leadership in 2007-2010 significantly improved the water supply of the capital.

In accordance with the Action Plan on "Ensuring efficient use of water resources" approved by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency has started to implement serious measures to ensure efficient use of water resources, to eliminate water losses, wastage, and illegal water supply.

Vice-rector of Baku State University Farda Imanov spoke about the importance of the projects implemented by the national leader Heydar Aliyev to ensure the efficient use of water resources in our country.

Gunay Mammadli, chairman of the territorial party organization of the New Azerbaijan Party under "Azersu" OJSC, said that the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev’s services are invaluable in protecting political stability, building a legal state, ensuring national security and defining a new economic course in our country.

The conference continued its work with panel sessions on "Water resources and its management", "Water supply, wastewater and rainwater management", "Environmental security and climate change".
