The ASWRA administration got acquainted with the projects implemented in the cities of Shusha and Lachin

According to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated March 30, 2023, the State Water Resources Agency of Azerbaijan was established to improve management in the fields of water resources, water management and reclamation, to use water resources efficiently and to improve the organization of land reclamation and irrigation work. "Azersu" Open Joint Stock Company and Azerbaijan Melioration and Water Management Open Joint Stock Company were placed under the Agency.

In accordance with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev’s instructions, the restoration and reconstruction of water supply and sewerage systems in the territories liberated from occupation are being successfully continued. The delegation led by the Chairman of the Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency Zaur Mikayilov got acquainted with the implementation of projects in the cities of Shusha and Lachin. In the presentation held at the special representation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Shusha region, the affairs carried out and planned within the framework of the project of reconstruction of drinking water supply systems of the city of Shusha were widely discussed. It was reported that shortly after Shusha city was liberated from occupation, a group of experts from "Azersu" OJSC investigated the status of water sources, transmission mains, reservoirs and distribution networks. The technical condition of the main water source of the city the Kichik-Kirs source and transmission main Kichik-Kirs-Shusha were inspected, restoration work was carried out and water supply to the city was ensured.

The work on the project of reconstruction of drinking water supply systems in the city of Shusha had been started in 2021. As part of the project, the invalid 5.3-kilometer section of the Kichik Kirs-Shusha transmission main was renewed with steel pipes. Taking into account the perspective development of Shusha city, the creation of an alternative source has been started. For this purpose, a water collecting dam with a capacity of 25,000 cubic meters, a pumping station and a new pipeline of 2.6 km length were built in the course of the Zarisli River. In December 2022, water supply from the source to the city was ensured. Currently, the construction of central water reservoirs is being continued at the high points of the city. In the next stage, the construction of intra-city water, sewage and rain water networks, drinking and waste water treatment facilities, pumping station is planned.

       

The Chairman of the Agency, Zaur Mikayilov, who got acquainted with the progress of the work in Lachin city, was informed that the project was designed for the drinking water supply and sewage services for 18,000 people, taking into account the prospective development. To provide the city with sustainable and high-quality drinking water, 6 sub-artesian wells are being restored in the area of Sus village, a water collection reservoir and a pumping station and a neutralizing facility are being built in the well zone. The construction and restoration of a 10-kilometer long high-pressure transmission main, a pumping station and 9 reservoirs with a total capacity of 4,000 cubic meters are being continued from the water source. The construction of the major part of the planned 58 kilometers of drinking water and 49 kilometers of waste water networks had been completed so far.

Within the framework of the visit, the Chairman of the State Water Resources Agency, Zaur Mikayilov, visited the water collection dam built on the Zarysli River, the irrigation facility on the Hakari River, as well as construction sites in the cities of Shusha and Lachin, got acquainted with the state of implementation of the projects and gave relevant assignments.
