In accordance with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev’s instructions, work in the direction of restoration and reconstruction of water supply systems in the territories liberated from occupation are being continued. According to the information provided by the Coordinating Headquarters established for the centralized solution of issues in the liberated territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the drinking and waste water systems of the city of Lachin are being rebuilt. It should be noted that during the occupation, the water supply infrastructure in the city of Lachin was destroyed and rendered unusable. The new project implemented in the city of Lachin is designed for providing these services to a total of 18,000 people by ensuring that the restored and built residential houses and facilities are connected to the newly created drinking water supply and waste water systems.

According to the project, 6 existing sub artesian wells near the village of Sus are restored to provide the city of Lachin with sustainable and high-quality drinking water. At the same time, a water collection reservoir and a pumping station, neutralizing device, a transformer station and other subsidiary buildings are being built in the well zone.

According to the project, a 42-kilometer part of the 58-kilometer drinking water network and a 39-kilometer part of the 49-kilometer waste water network were built in the city of Lachin. The construction of a 7 km long sewage collector has also been completed in order to transfer 4 km of rainwater lines and waste water to the treatment plant. Currently, the construction of the waste water treatment plant with a capacity of 4,000 cubic meters per day is in progress. The waste water to be generated in the city of Lachin will be completely cleaned and removed from the environmental point of view in this facility. Work on the project is expected to be completed this year.

At present, non-stop service has been organized by "Azersu" OJSC in the city of Lachin. In addition, continuous service is provided in Shusha city, Zangilan and Kalbajar regions, Hadrut, Talish and Sugovushan settlements.

It should be noted that according to the President Ilham Aliyev’s order dated November 24, 2020, a Coordination Headquarters was established for the centralized resolution of issues in the liberated territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The head of the staff is Samir Nuriyev, the head of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
