To protect the ecological stability of the Caspian Sea, as well as to optimally manage waste water that will be generated in 11 settlements, the creation of new sewage infrastructures in the northeastern part of the Absheron Peninsula is in progress. Based on the order of "Azersu" OJSC, in order to transfer the waste water formed in those settlements to the Pirshaghi treatment plant, construction of main transport collectors is currently being carried out in 2 directions, Zabrat-Kurdakhani-Pirshaghi, as well as along the coast of the sea.

The construction of a 4 km long collector with 1400 mm diameter reinforced concrete pipes was designed to transport waste water formed in Zabrat, Kurdakhani and Pirshagi settlements to the treatment plant and more than 75 percent of the work planned for 2022 has been completed so far.

It should be noted that within the framework of the project jointly implemented by the Azerbaijani government with the Korean International Cooperation Agency, the construction of a treatment plant with a productivity of 40 thousand cubic meters per day near the settlement of Pirshaghi, as well as a 1700-meter-long outlet line with steel pipes to ensure the discharge of purified and neutralized water to the relatively deep part of the sea, has been completed. Wastewater treatment in a biological type facility will be carried out based on new technology.
