A meeting held with the delegation of Japan International Cooperation Agency

The "Water supply and sanitation project in small towns" jointly financed by the Azerbaijan government and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is nearing completion. The implementation status of the project and the work done were discussed in detail at the meeting held with the JICA delegation at "Azersu" Open Joint Stock Company.

Deputy Chairman of "Azersu" OJSC Etibar Mammadov said that the Japanese government and companies are closely involved in the infrastructure projects implemented in Azerbaijan and highly appreciated the role of the Japan International Cooperation Agency in the implementation of the projects of reconstruction of drinking and waste water systems.

Hideki Tanabe, Deputy Director General of the East and Central Asia, Caucasus department of JICA, pointed out that the "Water supply and sewerage project in small towns" was successfully implemented and contributed to the improvement of social welfare and living conditions of the population.

It should be noted that within the framework of the "Water supply and sewerage project in small towns" jointly funded by the Azerbaijan government and the Japan International Cooperation Agency, drinking and waste water networks were reconstructed and put into operation in the cities of Gusar, Khachmaz, Khizi, Gobustan, and Naftalan. The construction of the wastewater treatment plant in Naftalan was completed and the plant was put into operation. The installation in Khizi city is working in trial mode, the final completion work of the construction is being carried out in the cities of Khachmaz and Gobustan, Altiaghac settlement.

Views on the issues of future cooperation in drinking water supply and waste water sector were exchanged during the meeting.
