The implementation of projects in the regions continues within the order signed by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev "On additional measures to improve the supply of irrigation water to arable lands and meet the population’s needs for drinking water." Drilling of new sub-artesian wells has been started in the villages of Tartar and Barda regions.

According to the order, sub-artesian wells will be drilled in Ismayilbeyli, Sarov and Sahlabad villages of Tartar region, Khankhanimli, Ikinci Nazirli and Kalantarli villages of Barda region. Due to the fact that the water sources of the Tartar region, located in the frontline, remain in the occupied territories, the villagers suffer in terms of both drinking and irrigation water supply. Especially in the summer months, there is a serious shortage of water in these villages.

It was decided to use groundwater to provide the villagers with safe drinking water. For this purpose, research work was carried out in the area and it was decided to drill new sub-artesian wells. Work has begun in Sahlabad village of Tartar region within the project implemented by “Azersu” OJSC and SOCAR. After that, sub-artesian wells will be drilled in Ismayilbeyli and Sarov villages.

At present, a sub-artesian well is being drilled in Khankhanimli village of Barda region too. At the next stage, wells will be drilled in Ikinci Nazirli and Kalantarli villages due to these drilling rigs. Upon completion of the excavation, transformers will be installed in the wells for pumping and power supply.

The projects implemented in Tartar and Barda districts envisage improving about 9,000 people’s drinking water supply of in 6 villages and meeting their needs for irrigation water. In general, by the end of the year, the drilling of sub-artesian wells in 24 settlements of 15 regions will be completed and water supply will be provided. More than 65,000 residents will benefit from these projects.
