Water supply and sewerage systems of all cities and centers of districts in Azerbaijan will be supplied with drinking water by the end of 2014.

    On April 16 the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev chaired a meeting on outcomes of socio-economic development in first quarter 2012 and a forthcoming duty was held. In his opening remarks, the President said that the social and economical duties were realized successfully in January-March 2012. Recalling that the implementation of the infrastructure projects is being continued successfully the Head of State highly appreciated the works on water supply and sewerage systems projects: “The implementation of water supply and sewerage systems projects are carried out across country. In each town and district centers works have been begun or under preparation.

    But here I would like to touch on one point. This is really a very large project. There were not sewerage systems, as well as drinking water lines in most cities generally.

    In other words, we are constructing them from scratch. At the same time there is water problem in Baku today. Of course we improved this problem to some extent and I am sure that this problem will be solved completely as of next two years. Implementation of drinking water, high quality water and sewerage systems projects will be continued successfully.

In the areas this project covers cities and districts’ centers. However there are such district that 80-90% population of these districts live in rural areas. And there are such districts that the population of these districts and its villages are fifty-fifty. In order we should look to the future. Now we will supply district centers, towns with drinking water and sewerage lines. But how this problem will be in rural areas? I see, we think over our investment opportunities. This is a project that requires a great funds and technical expertise. But we have to be ready for it.”

    The Head of State also stated that water supply and sewerage systems projects will be implemented in the village residential areas as well as large cities and district centers: “First of all, all towns and district centers should be supplied with sewerage and water projects. However preparatory works should be carried beforehand for implementing these projects in the large residential areas near district centers. Here spoken about module typed Water Treatment Plants. This was our initiative too. As a result of these works hundreds of population drinks clear drinking water. This project should be scoped more widely. If necessary we may increase the investments, in order to implement these projects in the villages on the coast of the rivers - not only on the coasts of Kur and Araz Rivers – as well as on other rivers.

   The President Ilham Aliyev also stated that additional measures will be undertaken on improvement of drinking water supply.
