World Water Forum was informed about improvement of water supply of Azerbaijan.

   On 12-17 March the 6th World Water Forum held in Marseille in France was completed. In the forum delegates from public and private sector organizations and non-governmental organizations from more than 130 countries discussed state of water supply, global drinking water problem, etc. In the forum it also noted that the situation of drinking water is heterogeneous over the world. Presently 40 percent of the world's population suffers from the lack of potable water and the water shortage problem is gradually tightened.

   In the forum water and healthy, water and green Planet, water and food safety, water and energetic, disasters connected to water, water and town-building, management, financing and development of water supply and other problems were discussed and found their solution ways.

   The Azerbaijani delegation led by Kocharli Hassanov, Deputy Chairman of “Azersu” OJSC for operation was active in the discussions. K. Hassanov stated in Round Table on “Water and Sanitation” and informed Forum participants on works done for improvement of water resources and drinking water: “Construction of water supply and sewerage systems of towns, villages and settlements and reconstruction of existing structures have been begun since 2011. Present construction of water supply and sewerage systems is carried out on more than 100 projects financed by the funds of the Government of Azerbaijan and International financial institutions. For supplying Baku city on a continuing basis with high quality drinking water the greatest underground water intake devices, 262km long Oguz-Gabala-Baku water pipeline consisting of GRP pipes with the capacity of 5m3/s was put into operation in 2010. For improving of drinking water quality transported to Baku ultra-filtration water treatment plant with the capacity of 6m3/s and corresponding to the last standards was constructed in Jeyranbatan a few months ago.” K. Hassanov also spoke about works done in sewerage systems fields.

   It should be noted that at the last phase of the 6th World Water Forum participants adopted a declaration. In the declaration provisions on improvement of drinking water supply and supplying with high quality water was reflected.
