Loan Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the World Bank on 17 August, 2007 in order to provide reliable and sustainable water supply and sewerage services in 4 towns and districts of the Republic of Azerbaijan, including the National Water Supply and Sanitation Services Project The agreement was signed and approved by the Order No. 247 of the Cabinet of Ministers of August 27, 2007. The project covers reconstruction of water supply and sewage systems in Shamakhi, Gabala, Saatli and Sabirabad cities.
In the city of Shamakhi
"Reconstruction of drinking water supply and sewerage system of Shamakhi city" has been calculated to improve 41000 residents’ drinking water supply and sanitation services in Shamakhi town by 2035.
In the first stage of the project, which was initiated in 2010, a 2441 meters long drainage water intake facility, two water reservoirs with a total capacity of 1,000 cubic meters, and one water pump station were built in Pirsaatchay's direction to provide Shamakhi with quality and durable water. A total of 3.4 km of transmission main were laid from the water source to the warehouses.
In the second phase of the project, four water reservoirs with a total capacity of 7000 cubic meters and an 8,9 km of transmission main were built. In Shamakhi, 128 km of drinking water, 122 km of sewerage network were established, the subscribers were provided with household units and meters were installed.
In order to eliminate the waste water in the city, the productivity of biological wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 10,000 cubic meters a day, as well as an administrative building in accordance with modern standards for the Shamakhi Sukanal Office have been constructed.
On October 2, 2017, with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev, the opening ceremony of the water and sewerage systems in Shamakhi was held.
In the city of Gabala
"Reconstruction of Gabala city's drinking water supply and sewerage system" has been calculated to improve the use of 30000 residents’ drinking water supply and sanitation services in Gabala city considering perspective development until 2035.
The project was launched in 2011. 6 sub-artesian wells were drilled, 5 reservoirs with a total capacity of 6400 cubic meters and 17.6 km of transmission main were constructed to supply the city of Gabala with drinking water. 63 km of 121 km of drinking water network was built in Gabala city.
From the ready section of the drinking water network, subscribers had been provided with a house fix, meters were installed. Subscribers who had been connected to the new network were provided with drinking water. At the same time, the work on the 58 km section of the 121 km sewerage network planned for the project had been completed. Construction of 8.2 km sewerage system was also completed in order to transfer waste water to treatment facilities.
The construction of a waste water treatment plant with a daily output of 4450 cubic meters is to be completed in order to eliminate waste water in Gabala.
In the city of Saatli
"The project on reconstruction of water supply and sewerage systems in Saatli city" is estimated to substantially improve 22000 residents’ water supply in Saatli, considering the perspective development of up to 2035.
The project was launched in 2012. To provide quality and durable water supply to Saatli city and surrounding villages, the Kura water treatment facilities located in Hajigabul region were used. For this purpose, in 2014, the Sabirabad-Saatli group water pipeline with total capacity of 62 km was constructed and commissioned. Two water reservoirs with a capacity of 5,000 cubic meters each were constructed at the entrance to the city.
Within the framework of the project, 135 km of internal water network has been established in the city, with the connection to each address, subscribers have been provided with meters. On March 28, 2017, President Ilham Aliyev attended the ceremony of commissioning of water supply systems in Saatli. At present all urban population is provided with continuous drinking water.
Within the next phase of the project, the city's sewage system will be reconstructed. So far, a 12 km section of a 112 km sewerage network has been built.
The waste waters of Saatli will be cleaned and dumped at a waste water treatment facility of 80,000 cubic meters per day to be constructed in the Sabirabad region in the future.
In the city of Sabirabad
"Reconstruction of Sabirabad Water Supply and Sewerage System" has been calculated to improve the use of 33,000 residents’ drinking water and sanitation services in Sabirabad city, taking into account perspective development until 2030.
The project was launched in 2012. A 62-km transmission main was installed in Kura water treatment plant located in Hajigabul region to provide Sabirabad with drinking water.
Two water reservoirs with a total capacity of 10,000 cubic meters, a 1.8 km long transmission main were constructed in Sabirabad. A total of 144 km of 155 km of drinking water network designed for the city has been built, and households have been set up with meters.
On December 15, 2014, with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev, a drinking water supply ceremony was held in Sabirabad. At present subscribers connected to the new network are provided with continuous drinking water.
The project envisages construction of a 125 km long sewerage network and 10 km of sewerage collector in Sabirabad. Wastewater treatment plant with capacity of 80,000 cubic meters per day will be constructed in Sabirabad region to eliminate wastewater.
