The project of reconstruction of drinking water supply systems of Shusha city, which was liberated from occupation by our victorious army 2 years ago, is being successfully continued under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev’s leadership.

In accordance with the President’s instructions, work on the project of creating an alternative water source in order to provide the city with stable and quality drinking water are about to be completed. According to the order of "Azersu" OJSC, a water collecting dam with a capacity of 25 thousand cubic meters was built near the village of Dashalti, in the course of the Zarysli River. In parallel with the construction of the dam in front of the river in the complex relief, in order to transport the water collected here to the city, a modern high-pressure pump station and a 2.6 km pipeline with steel pipes were constructed. Currently, final completion work is being carried out on the project.

The new source will allow for sustainable drinking water supply of the city of Shusha in the summer months, when the demand for water increases sharply, as well as in the winter months, when the productivity of the Kichik (Small) Kirs and Zarisli sources decreases during severe frosts. In accordance with the project, reconstruction work was carried out at the source of Kichik (Small) Kirs, a new water collecting device, the unusable 5.3 km section of the transmission main Kichik (Small) Kirs-Shusha was replaced with steel pipes, a pressure breaker and a sub-distribution chamber were built on the main pipeline.

In accordance with the approved project, the construction of 2 central reservoirs at the highest points of the city of Shusha has also been started. During the design process, the city is divided into 8 different pressure zones, 6 of these zones will be supplied with water in self-flow mode, and 2 with hydrophore pumps.

It should be noted that during the battles for the liberation of the city of Shusha, both transmission mains supplying the city with drinking water were purposely disabled. For a short time, the damaged parts of the Kichik (Small) Kirs-Shusha and Zarisli-Shusha main water pipelines were restored in the area, on November 25, 2020, water was supplied to the city from the source of Kichik (Small) Kirs and on December 20, Zarisli and adjustment work was carried out in the inner city network. Currently, "Azersu" OJSC operates in a non-stop service mode in Shusha city, Kalbajar, Lachin, Zangilan regions and Hadrut settlement.
