On the eve of the 99th anniversary of the national leader Heydar Aliyev, members of the Public Council under the “Azersu” Open Joint-Stock Company visited the Kura Water Treatment Plant, a masterpiece of the national leader in the drinking water sector. First, the monument to the Great Leader erected in the complex was visited, flowers were laid in front of the monument.

The head of the Kura Water Supply Branch, Eldaniz Hasanov, delivered detailed information about the working principle of water treatment plants and the process of water purification for the members of the Public Council. It was noted that water taken from the Kura River via the pumping stations is transferred to radial stabilizers in the first stage. Here, the sludge is precipitated using reagents. In the second stage, water is processed in horizontal stabilizers. Finally, in the third stage, water passing through the sand filters is transferred to a clean reservoir, where it is neutralized and pumped to the main pipelines. At the 89th kilometer of the transmission main - near the Sangachal settlement, water is delivered to Baku using re-lift pumps.

The guests were informed that the volume of drinking water brought to the Absheron Peninsula has increased significantly after the commissioning of the Oguz-Gabala-Baku water pipeline and the Jeyranbatan Ultrafiltration Water Treatment Plant. This allowed some of the water supplied to Baku from the Kura Water Treatment Plant to be directed to the Mughan and Aran regions. For this purpose, 107 km long Shirvan-Mughan and 62 km long Sabirabad-Saatli group main water pipelines and reservoirs were built and put into operation. Thus, the water supply of Hajigabul, Shirvan, Salyan, Neftchala, Bilasuvar, Sabirabad and Saatli cities, as well as the villages along the route of the transmission main had been substantially improved. In general, taking into account the perspective development by 2030, 630,000 people from more than 170 settlements will benefit from the Shirvan-Mughan and Sabirabad-Saatli group water pipelines.

It should be noted that in accordance with the President Ilham Aliyev’s instructions to ensure food security and increase export potential, the Kura Water Treatment Plants Complex also provides irrigation water to 10,000 hectares of arable land in Hajigabul and Shamakhi regions. For this purpose, a 27.5 km long main transmission line was built from the complex to the area called Padarchol.

To improve the drinking water supply of the rapidly developing city of Baku, measures was carried out on the second stage of the Kura water pipeline system in the 1980s. In 3 stages (1984, 1986 and 1988) 3 additional transmission mains were laid to Baku. Thus, the capacity of the complex had reached 9.5 per second or 820,000 cubic meters per day.
