In accordance with the “Action Plan for 2020- 2022 to ensure efficient use of water resources” approved by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, to prevent water losses and waste, “Azersu” OJSC inspected the water supply systems of individual houses and facilities in Binagadi district.

As a result of the special groups’ investigation set up to investigate cases of illegal use of water, cases unregistered and off-meter drinking water use were revealed.

The facts unregistered use of water in 3 apartment buildings located on Gulmammad Ramazanov Street in Binagadi settlement had been revealed. It tuned out that none of the newly built residential buildings has the technical condition for the use of water supply services. The water was provided to the buildings by an illegal connection to a nearby network. Thus, water taken from the network is filled into tanks installed in front of the buildings and supplied to residents.

The highest water loss in Binagadi district occurs in the dormitories where IDPs are settled in Darnagul settlement. Individual water lines were laid here by citizens that do not meet construction requirements. As there are no meters installed, water consumption is calculated according to the number of family members. Balance meters have been installed in each of these dormitories to measure water losses.

Necessary measures were taken in connection with the revealed facts, unauthorized lines and connections were eliminated, damage caused by illegal use was calculated and directed to compensation. In addition, citizens and entrepreneurs were informed about the technical conditions for connections to the drinking water network and the rules of connection.

It should be noted that in January- May 2021, 7682 facts of illegal use of water were revealed by “Azersu” OJSC and 781 facts in Binagadi district. According to these cases, consumption was restored in the amount of 2 million 55 thousand cubic meters and in Binagadi district- 225 thousand cubic meters.
