In accordance with the state program of socio-economic development of the regions approved by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the implementation of the project on reconstruction of drinking water and wastewater systems in Gazakh is nearing completion. The project is designed to improve 26 thousand residents’ access to water and sanitation services in Gazakh.

The first centralized water supply systems in Gazakh, established in the 1970s, were unable to meet demand because they were unusable. Taking this into account, in 2019, the creation of new infrastructure in Gazakh was launched within the framework of a project co-financed by the Government of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Development Bank,. To provide the city of Gazakh and surrounding villages with sustainable drinking water, 12 sub-artesian wells were drilled in Agstafa region, and 8.6 km of inter-well water lines were built. A pumping station has been built to transfer water from the source to reservoirs. The construction of a 9 km transmission main from the water source to Gazakh has been completed. The construction of a reservoir with a capacity of 10,000 cubic meters to provide the city with sustainable drinking water is under completion.

In order to improve the employees’ working conditions and improve the quality of services provided to consumers, the construction of a modern office building for Gazakh Sukanal Area is completed.

The project envisages the supply of drinking water to Aghkoynak, Garapapag, Huseynbeyli villages of Gazakh region and Dag Kasaman village of Agstafa region in the future. In total, 45,000 residents will benefit from the project.

It should be noted that the construction of drinking water and waste water networks has been completed in 32 out of 54 cities and regional centers, and drinking water networks have been completed in 12 out of 54 cities and regional centers.
