Admission of applications for membership in the Public Council to be established at “Azersu” OJSC starts

To ensure public participation and control over the performances of “Azersu” OJSC, the process of establishing a Public Council in the Joint Stock Company has begun. According to the order No. 158 signed by the Chairman of “Azersu” OJSC dated March 17, 2021, the Election Commission was set up to organize the elections to the Public Council and to determine the number of members of the Council. The commission was formed consisting of 4 “Azersu” employees and 5 representatives of civil society institutions.

At the first meeting of the Election Commission, Mohsun Guliyev, Head of the Affairs Department of “Azersu” OJSC, said that the Law on Public Participation approved by President Ilham Aliyev emphasizes the participation of the public and civil society institutions in the implementation of state policy and decision-making. Establishment of the Public Council in “Azersu” OJSC will further increase the transparency of the company's activities and ensure interaction with the public.

Delivering information about the legal basis for the establishment of the Council, Yashar Agayev, Deputy Head of the Legal Department of “Azersu” OJSC, Member of the Election Commission said that the Public Council will ensure the participation of civil society institutions in adopting legal acts and organizing public control in relevant areas.

The members of the civil society represented in the commission noted that the Public Council to be established at “Azersu” OJSC has the right to organize discussions on various issues in the drinking water supply and wastewater sector, to make proposals and act as a consultative body on the implementation of state policy in the relevant field.

   

Organizational issues were considered at the meeting. Yashar Agayev, Deputy Head of the Legal Department of Azersu OJSC has been elected Chairman of the Election Commission, Gunay Mammadli Leading Engineer of the Social Development Department a Secretary. In accordance with the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On Public Participation" and the "Regulations on the election of the Public Council by civil society institutions" approved by the Cabinet of Ministers, the council will be elected for 2 years with 11 members. The process of nomination and registration for the membership of the Council will be held on April 1-30, 2021.

Civil society institutions are requested to submit the following documents about the candidate nominated for membership in the public council:

- A copy of the candidate's ID card;

- Biography of the candidate;

- If the candidate is a member of any civil society institution, a copy of the document confirming that membership;

 - A document proving that the person has experience or knowledge in the relevant field.

The registration of the candidate nominated for the Public Council will be considered by the Election Commission within 3 working days and a relevant decision will be made. Elections to the Public Council will be held within one month after the nomination and registration process.
