“National Water Supply and Sanitation Project in 6 regions of Azerbaijan”

   “National Water Supply and Sanitation Project in 6 regions”, funded by the government of Azerbaijan and Islamic Development Bank, designed for reconstruction of drinking water supply and sewerage systems in Astara, Dashkesen, Gedebey, Terter, Samukh and Gazakh.  In April, 2011 Islamic Development Bank received an official request from “Azersu” OJSC for funding the project. In December 2011 IDB submitted Exception Agreement and Agency Agreement to the government of Azerbaijan. The agreements were signed by the sides in April, 2012 and entered into force on August 25. 

 

Gedebey city

    “Reconstruction of water supply and sewerage systems in Gedebey” project is designed to develop 12000 people’s water supply and sewerage systems taking account perspective development as of 2035. 

  The “Project “Reconstruction of water supply and sewerage systems in Gedebey” was launched in 2014.  Sudbulag was chosen as source of drinking water that will be provided to Gedebey. In accordance with the project a transmission main of 14,8km will be laid from the source to the city and 7 reservoirs with total capacity of 5500 cubic meters will be constructed on points high by relief.

 Construction of 81km of drinking water network in Gadabay has been completed, meters are installed on each address. For the first time in the city sewage system was created, 47.6 km of sewerage network and 1.5 km sewer collector was constructed.

On August 20, 2017, President Ilham Aliyev attended the opening ceremony of the project for reconstruction of drinking water supply and sewage systems in Gedebey. At present all urban population is provided with continuous drinking water.

At the final stage of the project, a 3500 cubic meter treatment plant will be constructed to clean up the waste water. Presently, tender procedures are underway for construction of waste water treatment plant.

The project also envisages the construction of a new administrative building for the Gadabay Sukanal Office.

 

Astara city

    The Project “Reconstruction of drinking water supply and sanitation in Astara city” designed for development of water supply and sewerage systems of 28500 people taking account perspective development as of 2035. 

The project work began in December 2014. Providing residents of the Astara city and surrounding villages with quality and durable drinking water, built on the shore of the Khanbulan water reservoir, will be available at the expense of water purification device with capacity of 30,000 cubic meters per day. Construction of a 28.7 km water pipeline from the water source to the city of Astara is foreseen.

Within the project, construction of two water reservoirs with capacity of 5,000 cubic meters each has been completed.
Construction of drinking water network in the city is underway. A total of 112.8 km of the 102 km section of the drinking water supply network was built and the meters were installed on the addresses. Asphalt cover on the streets is being restored where construction of the drinking water network is finalized.

Within the framework of the project, drinking water is to be supplied to 27 villages with a population of 73,000, located along the transmission main and near the city.

 

Terter city

    The Project “Reconstruction of drinking water supply and sanitation in Terter city” designed for development of water supply and sewerage systems of 26 thousand people of Terter city taking account perspective development as of 2035. 

The project was launched in May 2015. 9 sub-artesian wells with a total production capacity of 200 liters per second were drilled, 3.6 km of between wells and 2.3 km of transmission main were constructed to provide Tartar city and surrounding villages with drinking water. Two reservoirs with a total capacity of 10,000 cubic meters and a pump station were built to provide sustainable water supply to the city.    

Within the project, 90 km of drinking water, 74 km of sewerage network, 3.4 km of sewage collector were constructed in Terter city, mergers were provided to each address and subscribers were provided with meters.

On December 03, 2016 President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva attended the opening ceremony of drinking water supply and sewage networks in Tartar city. At present all urban population is provided with continuous drinking water.

Bidding procedures for the construction of a treatment plant with a capacity of 7,500 cubic meters per day are carried out to eliminate waste water in the city. Within the project, construction of a new administrative building is also planned for Terter Sukanal Office.

 

 Dashkesen city

   The Project “Reconstruction of Water Supply and Sewerage Systems in Dashkesen city” is realized under the “National Water Supply and Sanitation Project”. The project is designed to improve 12000 residents’ drinking water and sanitation services in Dashkesan, with perspective development in 2035.

According to the project launched in 2015, Garainek springs and Gurbulag water source was selected as the source to provide the city of Dashkasan and the surrounding villages with quality and durable drinking water. Water intake installations were built on springs. Construction of the Gurbulag water source is underway. Four water reservoirs with a total capacity of 4500 cubic meters, a 20.3 km-long transmission main and two pumping stations were built to provide water supply to the city.

The construction of 17.3 km of distribution water network planned to be completed in Dashkesan has been completed, meters have been set up for each address. New water supply system has been provided to Dashkesan without interruption.

13.3 km sewerage network was built in Dashkesan city according to the project. Wastewater in Dashkesan city will be cleaned and demounted at a waste water treatment facility, which is currently being constructed and is designed for 3500 cubic meters per day.
Construction of the new administrative building is also planned within the project.

The Alunitdagh and Madanchiler settlements, where 1500 thousand people live, will be provided with drinking water within the project. Alunitdagh settlement is already provided with water, and water supply will be provided to the settlement of Madanchiler.
